Lead Software Engineer, LearnWith.AI (Remote)

We're hiring Technical Team Leads to own quality and delivery for our application-level products. You will guide a small team of 3-5 engineers developing educational applications that serve thousands of students.

Potential Products Include

• Athena: AI-powered videos and assessments producing measurable learning gains
• TeachTap: AI-driven platform bringing historical figures to life in a TikTok-inspired educational format
• TeachTales: Personalized storytelling experiences designed to enhance comprehension
• TrashCat: Gamification-based learning that makes education engaging and enjoyable

This is a player-coach position: you'll spend 50% of your time hands-on implementing complex features and 50% coaching and empowering your team. You define quality standards, establish coding patterns, deliver instructional code reviews, and support engineer development. You own team results, not only your individual contributions.

Small teams, high ownership, minimal bureaucracy. You provide technical leadership; people management is handled separately.

What You Will Be Doing

• Implementing complex features that establish patterns for the team to follow
• Conducting PR reviews with thorough, instructional feedback
• Mentoring engineers through pair programming and continuous feedback
• Organizing technical efforts and decomposing requirements
• Defining quality benchmarks and ensuring team adherence

What You Won’t Be Doing

• Handling people management responsibilities (hiring, terminations, performance evaluations, career development discussions)
• Building platform-level infrastructure components
• Spending time in excessive meetings
• Designing architecture without hands-on implementation

Basic Requirements Lead Software Engineer key responsibilities

• At least 5 years of full-stack development experience
• At least 2 years in a lead role (reviewing others' work, mentoring engineers, establishing team practices)
• Track record of shipping SaaS products
• Experience with AI tools in development workflow
• Demonstrated ability to help other engineers improve and grow

Working with us This is a full-time (40 hours per week), long-term position. The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record. The compensation level for this role is $100 USD/hour, which equates to $200,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year. The payment period is weekly.
