The Shop Foreman oversees all warehouse and parts distribution operations for the industrial maintenance facility, managing shop technicians while ensuring efficient receipt, storage, inventory control, and delivery of mechanical and electrical components across the campus. This role combines hands-on warehouse management with supervisory responsibilities including staff scheduling, performance management, vendor coordination, and maintaining accurate inventory systems that directly support facility operations continuity.
What is your day to day?
Supervise and coordinate daily activities of shop technicians including work assignments, delivery schedules, and warehouse organization priorities
Manage receiving operations for all mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and facility parts deliveries, verifying accuracy and resolving discrepancies with vendors
Maintain perpetual inventory accuracy through cycle counting programs, stock level monitoring, and reorder point management to prevent operational delays
Coordinate with Operations Manager and Critical Systems Engineers to anticipate parts needs for scheduled maintenance and emergency repairs
Conduct performance evaluations, provide technical training, and mentor shop technicians on inventory procedures, safety protocols, and delivery coordination
Oversee Class E vehicle fleet maintenance schedules, driver compliance, and transportation logistics for campus-wide parts distribution
Implement and enforce warehouse safety standards including OSHA compliance, hazardous materials storage protocols, and ergonomic material handling practices
Manage vendor relationships for parts procurement, negotiate pricing, and coordinate expedited deliveries for critical equipment failures
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for parts requisition, issuance tracking, tool accountability, and equipment sign-out systems
Generate inventory reports, analyze usage trends, and recommend stock level adjustments to optimize carrying costs while ensuring parts availability
Organize warehouse layout for maximum efficiency, accessibility, and compliance with fire codes and safety regulations
Make deliveries and perform hands-on warehouse tasks during peak periods or staff shortages to maintain operational continuity
RequiredDesired experience and technical skills
High School diploma or GED equivalent; Associate's degree in Business Management, Logistics, or related field preferred
Valid driver's license with clean driving record and current Class E commercial driver's license (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
5-7 years experience in warehouse operations, inventory management, or parts distribution with minimum 2 years in supervisory capacity
Proven leadership ability including staff scheduling, performance management, conflict resolution, and team development
Advanced proficiency with inventory management systems, CMMS platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and HVAC component identification to support accurate inventory categorization
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing operational demands
Excellent communication skills for coordinating with facility leadership, technicians, vendors, and external stakeholders
Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and perform hands-on warehouse tasks as needed
Preferred
Forklift certified with current operator credential and ability to train/certify shop technicians
Previous experience in industrial or commercial critical facility maintenance environment supporting 24/7 operations
Formal training in inventory control methodologies such as ABC analysis, min/max systems, or just-in-time principles
Experience with hazardous materials management including SDS documentation, storage compliance, and disposal coordination
Familiarity with procurement processes, purchase order systems, and vendor performance evaluation
