The Maintenance Assistant supports operation, inspection, and maintenance processes for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment and systems in assigned facilities. The Maintenance Assistant will work under the supervision of Chief Engineers, focusing on safe work practices. This is an entry-level position that provides opportunities for growth in the engineering field, with optional programs toward Journeyman licensure.
You will work as part of an engineering team of 3 at a 500,000 square foot multi-tenant facility in Hampton, VA. The Maintenance Assistant position is an on-site role.
Estimated total compensation for this position:
$18.00 - $22.00 per hour
The total compensation range is an estimate and not guaranteed. An employment offer is based on an applicant's education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, internal equity and alignment with market data.
Schedule: 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Conduct assessments of building systems for proper operation, tests, rounds, and data analysis to ensure peak campus functionality.
- Monitor the operation of the mechanical/electrical equipment to support work detail for assembly, installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of equipment.
- Partners with Engineers to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
- Learn to interpret blueprints, diagrams, and schematics to plan tasks, interact with clients and staff, to identify the best approach to complete evolutions safely and in an environmentally compliant manner.
- Complete work orders in CMMS, documenting labor and repair details.
- Support replacement of lamps, ballasts, breakers, and other components, while receiving documented training and guidance from experienced experts.
- Provide support to external personnel and participate in ongoing training programs, while maintaining equipment for daily operation.
- Support facilities preparation and response for unplanned, or pending, emergencies.
Required qualifications:
- Ability to climb ladders, up to 20 feet
- Ability to operate scissor lifts, up to 20 feet
- Ability to lift, up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, outdoor conditions, and on flat elevations
- Strong communication and customer service skills
Preferred qualifications:
- Military, Commercial, or Industrial experience
- Maintenance experience with cross-functional facility-support capabilities
- Experience working within a CMMS-driven maintenance environment
- A functional understanding of computers and related software
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- NFPA 70E Electrical Safety training
- Additional certifications (HVAC, BAS, Controls, power quality, or critical environment systems, etc.) will benefit your consideration
