Role description
About Us:
Paytm is India's leading mobile payments and financial services distribution company. Pioneer of the mobile QR payments revolution in India, Paytm builds technologies that help small businesses with payments and commerce. Paytm’s mission is to serve half a billion Indians and bring them to the mainstream economy with the help of technology.
About the Role
UPI is the backbone of India's digital payments revolution — and Paytm is one of its largest participants, processing hundreds of millions of transactions every month. We are looking for a Product Manager to join our UPI team and drive product strategy, user growth, and experience excellence across our UPI-powered flows.
This role sits at the intersection of consumer behaviour, financial infrastructure, and regulatory nuance. You will own high-impact product surfaces and work closely with engineering, design, data, and business teams to ship products that millions of Indians use daily.
Key Responsibilities
1. Core UPI Product Ownership
Own end-to-end product vision, roadmap, and execution for one or more UPI surfaces
Drive seamless payment flows: initiation, authentication, success/failure states, and post-transaction experience
Continuously improve funnel metrics — conversion, success rate, and drop-off — through A/B testing and experimentation
Work with NPCI guidelines and stay ahead of regulatory changes to ensure compliance without compromising experience
2. User Experience & Growth
Identify friction points in the UPI journey using data, user research, and support insights, then ship targeted fixes
Design and launch features that drive engagement, frequency of use, and top-of-wallet positioning
Own discovery and nudge strategies that help users adopt new UPI capabilities
Collaborate with design to maintain a fast, trustworthy, and intuitive payment experience
3. Platform Reliability & Scale
Define success metrics (SLAs, success rates, latency benchmarks) and hold engineering accountable to them
Build escalation frameworks and incident response playbooks for payment failures
Ensure platform readiness for high-traffic events such as festive seasons, IPL, and government disbursements
4. Insights & Experimentation
Build and maintain dashboards that track north-star and guardrail metrics across the UPI funnel
Drive a culture of rapid experimentation — hypothesis → test → learn → scale
Generate and socialise insights that influence upstream decisions in engineering, design, and business
Required Qualifications
3–6 years of product management experience with a mandatory focus on consumer-facing products or fintech
Deep understanding of user psychology, engagement funnels, and conversion mechanics in high-frequency consumer apps
Proven ability to translate ambiguous problems into structured hypotheses and ship fast, iterative solutions
Comfort with SQL and product analytics tools (Mixpanel, Amplitude, Metabase, or equivalent)
Strong written and verbal communication skills — ability to write crisp PRDs, present to leadership, and align cross-functional stakeholders
Demonstrated ownership mindset: you have shipped features end-to-end across product, engineering, and go-to-market
Good to Have
Prior experience working in a UPI-regulated environment or with NPCI product constructs
Experience with 0→1 product development alongside maintaining and scaling existing surfaces
Exposure to growth, lifecycle, or CRM-driven product work
Why Join Us
Work on one of India's most critical financial infrastructure products — UPI — at massive scale
Join a high-performance product org with strong engineering depth and a bias for shipping
Influence product decisions that affect hundreds of millions of transactions every day
Operate in a fast-moving, ownership-driven culture where PMs have real authority — and real accountability
Compensation
If you are the right fit, we believe in creating wealth for you. With 500 mn+ registered users, 25 mn+ merchants, and unmatched transaction data depth, Paytm is uniquely positioned to define the next chapter of UPI in India — and we want you to help write it.
