ZS is looking for a consultant to join our Digital & Technology Advisory practice, embedded within the Digital Experience organization of a leading global pharmaceutical company. This is a business advisory role — you will shape how commercial teams leverage data as a strategic asset, translating enterprise data strategy into business-ready data products that drive decision-making across sales, marketing, medical, and patient engagement.
We need consultants who understand the business of commercial data — how HCP, patient, sales, digital, and payer data flows through an organization, where it creates value, and how to package it into reusable products that stakeholders actually adopt. You should be as comfortable leading a data product roadmap discussion with a VP of Commercial Analytics as you are reviewing a semantic layer design with a data engineering team.
What You’ll Do:
- Partner with commercial leadership, analytics, and IT to define and advance the enterprise data strategy — aligning data investments to brand priorities, franchise goals, and cross-functional use cases.
- Develop and present executive-level business cases, investment narratives, and roadmaps that articulate the value of data initiatives to VP and C-suite stakeholders.
- Advise on data governance and operating model design — including roles, decision rights, stewardship structures, and the organizational capabilities required to scale a data-driven culture.
- Facilitate stakeholder alignment across commercial, medical, and IT functions to build shared ownership of data strategy outcomes.
- Lead the design and delivery of reusable data products — applying “data as a product” principles to package curated datasets, semantic layers, KPI frameworks, and analytical assets for business consumption.
- Define data product roadmaps that prioritize use cases across commercial domains: field engagement, omnichannel marketing, patient services, payer/access, and medical affairs.
- Translate business requirements into data product specifications, working closely with data engineering and platform teams to ensure products are reliable, documented, discoverable, and adopted.
- Establish product management practices for data — including intake processes, SLAs, versioning, quality metrics, and consumer feedback loops.
- Serve as a trusted advisor across key commercial data domains: HCP master data, patient/hub data, sales and call activity, digital engagement, consent and preference management, and payer/access data.
- Assess the current state of data assets, identify gaps, and recommend improvements to data quality, lineage, and integration — particularly across CRM, marketing automation, and analytics platforms.
- Support master data management (MDM) strategy and execution, including data harmonization across sources, crosswalk design, and coexistence models for legacy and next-gen platforms.
- Stay current on pharma-specific data considerations: regulatory requirements (HIPAA, CCPA/CPRA, AMA PDRP), consent frameworks, third-party data sourcing (IQVIA, Komodo, Symphony), and emerging trends in real-world data and AI/ML readiness.
- Technology-Informed Problem Solving.
- Maintain working fluency in the commercial data and analytics technology landscape — not to build, but to advise intelligently on platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, Reltio, Informatica, dbt, and cloud-native data services.
- Evaluate vendor solutions and system integrator delivery against business requirements; identify gaps, risks, and misalignment before they become issues.
- Bridge the gap between business stakeholders and technical teams — ensuring data product requirements are grounded in what is feasible, scalable, and aligned with enterprise architecture.
What You’ll Bring:
- MBA with a bachelor's (and often graduate) degree in a quantitative, analytical discipline, such as Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Management Science, Data Science, Statistics, Econometrics, or Engineering. Alternately, candidates may possess a PhD in marketing, economics, decision sciences or related field with a business application. In lieu of an MBA or PhD, 5-8 years of relevant work experience may substitute.
- Up to 3 years of post-MBA relevant work experience, and 3-5 years of pre-MBA relevant work experience, with evidence of strong analytic work (including use of advanced modeling techniques and tools such as R, SAS, Tableau, or VBA.
- 2–4 years of experience in management consulting, commercial analytics, data strategy, or digital transformation — ideally in life sciences or healthcare.
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical commercial data: the key data domains (HCP, patient, sales, digital, payer), how they interconnect, and where they create business value.
- Hands-on exposure to “data as a product” concepts — you have experience defining, building, or managing data products and understand what it takes to move from raw data to business-ready assets.
- Demonstrated ability to build executive-level narratives and business cases that translate technical data initiatives into language leadership cares about — ROI, speed-to-insight, risk reduction, and competitive advantage.
- Excellent communication skills: you can lead a data product roadmap review with business stakeholders in the morning and facilitate a technical design session with a data engineering team in the afternoon.
- Structured problem-solving and a bias toward frameworks — you bring clarity to ambiguity, whether scoping a data governance model or prioritizing a product backlog.
- High motivation, good work ethic, maturity and personal initiative
- Aptitude for, and enjoyment of, leading and managing teams.
- Effective oral and written communication skills that enable personal impact with senior-level decision makers.
- Strong attention to detail, with a quality-focused mindset.
- Analytic problem-solving skills, with a creative and innovative outlook.
- Client service orientation.
- Fluency in English.
- Client-first mentality.
- Intense work ethic.
- Collaborative spirit and problem-solving approach.
How you’ll grow:
- Cross-functional skills development & custom learning pathways
- Milestone training programs aligned to career progression opportunities
- Internal mobility paths that empower growth via s-curves, individual contribution and role expansions
