Responsibilities
For the Hot Topics team:
Monitor newscasts, breaking news, press briefings, assemble video elements, and create a list of the biggest moments of the day for Hot Topic consideration.
Generate a daily list containing the topics trending on social media.
Pinpoint the strongest elements to support each story discussed in the morning Hot Topics meeting
Pitch clip options for live show and entertainment weekend show, including outlines for possible montages where needed
Isolate and select video elements for the cold open, coordinate with the writers on the best visuals, and communicate with editors on elements for the cold open ensuring all legal guidance has been followed
Use editorial judgment to decide on the best portion of the video to enhance the Hot Topics conversation — which may include cutting video down, captioning, or creating a montage — and work with the tape team to ensure the finished product features the highest quality videos
Clear finished video elements with ABC News’ Legal and Standards departments, if applicable, and communicate with the entire Hot Topics team on the final video elements for broadcast
For The Social/digital Team
Monitor the day’s show and pitch ways to capitalize on the strong voices of our co-hosts by taking the best and buzziest moments for them to be re-edited, adding graphics and other elements to create videos optimized for viewing on mobile devices on The View’s many social platforms.
Constantly look for new and innovative ways to feature the hosts and create videos that are an extension of The View’s brand.
Contribute to the social team on daily postings and brainstorming ideas tailored to co-hosts' interests
Monitor the evolving ways in which viewers consume our show online and readjust formatting and concepts accordingly
Basic Qualifications
2+ years of experience in a television news/politics setting — social media experience is a plus
Must be proficient with digital shooting and editing in Avid or Adobe Premiere
Strong research and writing skills are a must with ability to work under extreme deadlines
Proven ability to make editorial judgments as well as an overall understanding of news programs
Comfortable working closely with high-profile talent
Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Required Education
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
The hiring range for this position in New York is $62,400 - $83,600 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
