About the Role
We are seeking a seasoned and savvy attorney to help build and lead the company’s global privacy and AI governance program.
Reporting to the General Counsel, this role will be responsible for developing the company’s privacy framework and programs and establishing governance structures for the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence. The role will work closely with product, engineering, and data teams to integrate privacy and AI governance into the company’s technology and development processes.
The ideal candidate is a pragmatic and proactive attorney who enjoys working closely with technical teams, navigating evolving regulatory frameworks, and building scalable governance programs in fast-moving environments. This role will help define how the company approaches privacy, AI risk management, and data governance as the business continues to grow globally.
Over time, this role may expand to build and lead a broader privacy and AI governance function
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement the company’s global privacy program, including policies, governance frameworks, and operational processes.
- Advise product and engineering teams on privacy-by-design principles and data governance considerations across new and existing products.
- Develop and implement governance frameworks for the responsible development and deployment of artificial intelligence.
- Provide guidance on AI-related legal and regulatory issues, including model governance, training data considerations, model risk assessments, and internal AI use policies.
- Lead privacy risk assessments, data protection impact assessments (DPIAs), and related reviews for new products and features.
- Advise on global privacy regulatory requirements, including GDPR, UK GDPR, U.S. state privacy laws, Canadian privacy laws, Brazil’s LGPD, India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, and other emerging regimes.
- Monitor and advise on evolving global AI regulatory frameworks, including the EU AI Act and emerging U.S. AI regulations.
- Support incident response and regulatory engagement related to privacy or data protection issues.
- Partner with engineering, product, security, and data teams to operationalize privacy and AI governance requirements.
- Develop internal guidance, training, and playbooks that help business teams understand and comply with privacy and AI governance standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed privacy and AI governance into company processes, product development, and operational decision-making.
- Support long-term development of the company’s privacy and AI governance function as the organization scales.
About You
- J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 8+ years of legal experience with a significant focus on privacy, data protection, or technology law.
- Strong working knowledge of global privacy frameworks, including GDPR and U.S. privacy laws.
- Experience advising product or engineering teams on privacy issues related to technology development.
- Experience developing or implementing privacy programs, policies, or governance frameworks.
- Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical guidance for technical and business teams.
- Strong judgment and ability to prioritize risk in a fast-moving product environment.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently and drive initiatives across multiple teams.
Preferred
- Experience advising on AI governance issues, including model governance, training data use, and AI risk management frameworks.
- Experience developing privacy-by-design processes within product development workflows.
- Experience working with globally distributed product and engineering teams.
- Experience helping build or scale a privacy or data governance function.
