Summary:
This contractor will have the Opportunity to join a long-standing Mainframe engineering team supporting critical Data Distributor Deposits application. The environment is maintenance heavy and stability focused, with engineers responsible for modifying existing COBOL applications based on product requirements, testing changes, and deploying them into production. This is not greenfield development; success in this role comes from strong MF Cobol / VSAM knowledge, careful change management, and the ability to work within decades old systems.
Responsibilities:
Support and maintain the Data Distributor, NOVA, and SD applications within the Core Deposits team.
Modify existing COBOL programs to meet business and product requirements (enhancements, fixes, regulatory updates).
Validate and distribute data to Hogan IDS, including oversight of nightly batch processing.
Develop, update, and maintain JCL for batch jobs and production workflows.
Perform testing, validation, and coordinate production deployments following Wells Fargo change processes.
Participate in Agile ceremonies and collaborate closely with product and business partners.
Support production issues and contribute to ongoing application reliability and stability.
Mentor junior engineers on mainframe standards, Hogan processes, and best practices.
Qualifications:

Strong COBOL development experience in a mainframe environment (most critical skill).
Extensive hands‑on experience working with VSAM.
Proven experience enhancing and maintaining legacy, highly customized mainframe applications.
Solid understanding of JCL for batch workflows.
Experience working within an Agile delivery environment. (preferred)
Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with product and business teams. (preferred)
Ability and willingness to mentor junior engineers. (preferred)
Experience with ServiceNow (incident, change, problem management). (preferred)
Background in financial services or regulated industries. (preferred)
Prior experience with long‑lived, business‑critical systems involving complex integrations. (preferred)
Banking/financial services experience is highly preferred. (preferred)
Strong understanding of how account numbers, routing numbers, check numbers and related identifiers are structured and processed internally within COBOL applications. (preferred)
Familiarity with internal transaction and deposit tracking, fraud processes, and financial data flows. (preferred)
