Job Description
The Director of Software Engineering will lead a substantial part of the MI software engineering organization from Bangalore, delivering high‑quality, scalable software solutions aligned with business and product strategy. This role is responsible for strong execution, people leadership, and technical excellence while operating within medical device quality and regulatory requirements.
The role manages engineers and senior technical leaders, oversees delivery of complex software programs, and partners closely with Program Management, Systems, Quality, and Haifa SW engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership & Strategy
- Translate product and organizational strategy into clear, executable software engineering plans.
- Contribute to the overall MI software engineering strategy while owning execution for assigned domains.
- Drive alignment between Bangalore‑based and Haifa-based teams, CT SW team, global stakeholders, and business priorities.
Delivery & Execution
- Own delivery of software programs, including new product introductions, design changes, innovation initiatives, and field actions.
- Ensure consistent delivery with high quality, predictable schedules, and strong accountability.
- Proactively identify and mitigate technical, organizational, and schedule risks.
Engineering Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Establish and reinforce strong software engineering practices, coding standards, design quality, and GenAI adoption.
- Drive continuous improvement to improve cycle time, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, quality, learning, and innovation.
Quality & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure software development activities comply with medical device regulations, quality systems, and safety standards.
- Partner with Quality, Systems, and Regulatory teams during audits, reviews, and compliance activities.
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Provide technical leadership across front‑end, back‑end, and platform development teams.
- Collaborate with Architects and System leaders to guide architectural decisions and platform evolution.
- Review and influence key technical designs for critical and complex programs.
People & Talent Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop engineering managers, technical leads, and senior engineers.
- Build strong succession plans and support career growth for high‑potential talent in Bangalore.
- Drive hiring, onboarding, and retention of top software engineering talent in partnership with HR.
Agile & Lean Practices
- Lead teams operating in Agile / Lean development environments.
- Coach leaders and teams on estimation, planning, dependency management, and execution discipline.
- Use data and metrics to continuously improve delivery performance and quality.
Global Stakeholder Engagement
- Communicate delivery status, risks, and outcomes to senior leadership and global stakeholders.
- Work effectively across time zones with engineering, product, and business partners globally.
- Resolve priority conflicts through proactive communication and alignment.
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’ s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related STEM discipline.
- Advanced degree is a plus.
Required Experience
- 12+ years of software engineering experience, including hands‑on technical roles.
- 3–5+ years in a leadership role managing managers and/or large development teams.
- Proven track record delivering complex software systems at scale.
- Experience working in regulated environments (medical devices strongly preferred).
Technical & Leadership Skills
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and system design expertise.
- Experience in Agile development environments and modern SDLC practices.
- Prior experience with Java‑based and web‑based software systems.
- Solid understanding of Linux/Unix environments and modern development tooling.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with global senior leaders.
- Execution‑focused mindset balancing delivery, quality, innovation, and people development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in medical imaging, healthcare, or other regulated industries.
- Experience working with globally distributed development teams.
- Demonstrated success improving engineering productivity and quality metrics.
Working Conditions
- Based in Bangalore, India.
- Occasional travel to global engineering sites or customer locations.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across global time zones in a matrixed environment.
