The
Engineering Manager – Recommerce/Sellback
owns the end-to-end technology charter for Flipkart’s recommerce platform, which enables
product exchange and buy-back of used devices
, and manages the
complete supply-chain lifecycle
from customer pickup to refurbishment, resale, or liquidation. Recommerce is a
material contributor to Flipkart’s bottom line
, driving margin expansion, affordability, sustainability, and customer retention.
This role is responsible for
building and scaling highly reliable, fraud-resilient, and cost-efficient platforms
that operate at large volumes across categories, sellers, logistics partners, and refurb ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Platform & Business Ownership
- Own the
Recommerce & Sellback technology charter
end-to-end, covering exchange journeys, device acquisition, grading, pricing, logistics, refurbishment, resale, and settlement.
- Partner closely with
Business, Supply Chain, Category, Finance, Risk, and Ops
teams to translate P&L goals into scalable platform capabilities.
- Drive
margin improvement and cost optimization
through technology-led levers such as better pricing intelligence, reduced leakage, faster turnarounds, and automation.
2. Engineering Leadership & Delivery
- Lead multiple high-performing engineering teams responsible for
consumer journeys, partner integrations, backend platforms, and analytics systems
.
- Set a strong bar for
architecture, reliability, scalability, and security
, given the financial and fraud-sensitive nature of recommerce flows.
- Ensure predictable execution for
peak events (BBD, seasonal spikes)
with zero disruption to exchange and sellback experiences.
3. Supply Chain & Ecosystem Enablement
- Build platforms that orchestrate
complex multi-leg supply chains
involving customers, logistics partners, warehouses, refurb units, and secondary markets.
- Enable
real-time tracking, grading accuracy, dispute handling, and SLA enforcement
across the lifecycle.
- Drive automation across reconciliation, payouts, and exception handling to reduce operational overhead.
4. Risk, Fraud & Trust Systems
- Own systems that detect and prevent
device fraud, mis-grading, swaps, and abuse
while maintaining a low-friction customer experience.
- Implement rule engines, data signals, and ML-assisted decisioning to balance
growth, cost, and risk
.
- Partner with central risk and trust teams to continuously improve safeguards.
5. Data-Driven Decision Making
- Build strong
analytics and intelligence platforms
for pricing, recovery rates, TAT, leakage, and margin tracking.
- Enable leadership with
real-time visibility
into recommerce health and unit economics.
- Use experimentation and insights to drive continuous improvement.
6. People & Org Leadership
- Hire, mentor, and grow
strong engineering leaders
and ICs; build succession and depth for a business-critical charter.
- Foster a culture of
ownership, accountability, and product thinking
.
- Champion cross-org collaboration and technical excellence.
