Job Summary:
As a Senior Staff Software Engineer – Engineering Excellence, you will be the primary visionary
for how our engineering organisation builds, tests, and deploys software. This is a high-impact,
high-autonomy role designed for a technical leader who thrives at the intersection of software
architecture, infrastructure, performance, and developer experience.
You will define the "Future of Engineering" at Chargebee, serving as a technical sounding board
for leadership while remaining deeply "hands-on" to design the underlying systems that
empower hundreds of engineers to ship high-quality code at velocity.
Key Responsibilities:
● Architectural Leadership: Define the long-term technical roadmap for our developer
platform, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.
● Scale & Performance: Optimize large-scale distributed systems to ensure our internal
tools are as resilient and scalable as our customer-facing products.
● Driving Innovation: Research and implement emerging technologies in the DevOps
and Cloud-native space to eliminate friction in the SDLC.
● Strategic Advisory: Act as a critical advisor to Engineering Leadership (VP/CTO level),
translating business needs into technical strategies that improve developer throughput.
● Influence & Collaboration: Work across diverse product and infrastructure teams to
unify engineering standards and drive the adoption of "Golden Paths."
Required Qualifications:
● Deep Technical Expertise: 12+ years of experience building and maintaining large-
scale distributed systems.
● Architectural Mastery: Proven ability to design complex, multi-tier architectures with a
focus on modularity, observability, and security.
● Performance & Scalability: Proven experience in designing, benchmarking, and
optimizing high-throughput, low-latency systems at scale. Strong understanding of
performance testing, capacity planning, and resource optimization across applications.
● DevOps & Cloud Native: Expert-level knowledge of Cloud providers (AWS/GCP/Azure)
and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
● CI/CD Guru: Extensive experience building or optimizing high-performance CI/CD
pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, Tekton, or GitHub Actions) for large monorepos or
microservice ecosystems.
● Systems Thinking: The ability to look at the entire engineering lifecycle—from local
development to production—and identify systemic bottlenecks.
Soft Skills & Leadership
● Influence without Authority: You can persuade senior stakeholders and lead-level
engineers to adopt new paradigms through technical merit and clear communication.
● Mentorship: A passion for leveling up the engineers around you through design
reviews, RFCs.
● Pragmatic Visionary: You can balance the desire for "perfect" architecture with the
practical needs of the business.
