Meta Robotics Studio is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Component Sourcing Engineer to support the Robotics Operations Team. In this role, you will be responsible for forecasting, sourcing, and managing electrical components and supplier relationships to enable reliable scaling of electrical designs and system integration. You will serve as a bridge between early research builds and scaled prototype builds by owning BOM transfer, supply continuity, alternates strategy, and inventory readiness for prototypes.
Component Sourcing Engineer Responsibilities:
- Transfer and refine Bills of Materials (BOMs) from early research builds to scalable prototype builds, ensuring they’re complete, accurate, and ready for manufacturing
- Forecast and plan future demand for electrical components, PCBs, and PCBAs to support multiple concurrent prototype programs
- Source full BOMs while identifying long lead-time items and developing mitigation plans (alternates, safety stock, second sources)
- Proactively work with vendors and suppliers to ensure availability and continuity of supply for key components
- Research, propose, and review alternate components for BOM substitution, including form/fit/function evaluation and risk tradeoffs
- Obtain and manage quotes for FPC, PCB, and PCBA fabrication and assembly
- support supplier selection decisions and lead-time/cost optimization
- Track and maintain component stock levels and inventory accuracy
- implement scalable inventory and kitting workflows for prototype builds
- Manage invoicing coordination and purchasing process execution in partnership with internal procurement/ops partners
- Partner cross-functionally with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Safety, and external suppliers to support build schedules and resolve supply constraints
- Create and maintain clear documentation and reporting for BOM status, open risks, supply gaps, and readiness for upcoming builds
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in component sourcing, electrical component engineering, or related supply chain engineering roles supporting high-mix, low-volume electro-mechanical or electronics programs
- Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent practical experience
- Experience sourcing and managing complex PCBs/PCBAs, including BOM completeness, long-lead identification, and supplier coordination
- Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional Engineering, Safety, Manufacturing, and external partners
- Hands-on experience with inventory management (stocking, tracking, kitting, cycle counts, and readiness reporting)
- Experience evaluating and recommending substitutions for electrical components (e.g., resistors, capacitors, inductors, integrated circuits), including risk and compatibility considerations
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience supporting research/advanced development programs and guiding them through prototype scaling and product transfer
- Experience supporting robotics and/or consumer electronics product development
- Experience with vendor engagement and relationship management for component procurement, including negotiation inputs and performance management
- Experience operating in dynamic high-mix/low-volume environments, including rapid iteration and frequent BOM churn
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
- Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
- Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
