You're stepping into a validated educational framework already delivering results at Alpha School. LearnWithAI powers the platform underneath, scaling rapidly throughout the US and internationally. Students complete their core curriculum in two hours daily and rank in top national percentiles. The approach is effective. What's missing is someone who thinks constantly about the people within the system.

You'll establish design excellence, create the standards, and develop the capability. Your domain includes our learning platform and its connected learning tools, serving varied users both within Alpha and externally.

A five-year-old without reading skills is learning numbers through an interface that must transform novelty into playful engagement. A teen struggling two grades below level is regaining confidence after prolonged academic setbacks, where a single unclear interaction could reverse progress. A parent gains visibility into their child's actual learning process. That transparency reduces worry and enables them to provide meaningful support. An academic coach overseeing a multi-age classroom requires insight into advancement without information overload. Your task is understanding each context thoroughly enough to make authentically distinct design decisions for every audience.

Your domain is the experience architecture: investigate each user group with genuine rigor, translate findings into design frameworks that engineers implement directly, and deliver code-ready outputs for immediate deployment rather than theoretical mockups awaiting approval. You collaborate with product owners accountable for results and engineers responsible for implementation. You challenge decisions that compromise user experience. You manage the complete cycle.

You'll employ AI as your multiplier for accelerated iteration and broader coverage, though your expertise—not algorithmic suggestions—determines what launches. Primary attention remains on our education platform, with intermittent work in additional areas.

What You Will Be Doing

• Investigate users spanning fundamentally distinct audiences and develop design frameworks that reflect that understanding
• Create and sustain design systems embedded within each product's native UI framework, enabling engineering velocity and ensuring design consistency rather than divergence
• Develop functional prototypes allowing product owners to validate concepts in days rather than weeks
• Evaluate existing products through the user lens: identifying friction points, quantifying engagement costs, and determining impact opportunities
• Establish design standards here: feedback mechanisms, trade-off evaluation processes, and quality benchmarks you maintain
• Collaborate with product owners and engineering teams, challenging requests that degrade user experience

What You Won’t Be Doing

• Setting product direction; product owners handle that, you guarantee the experience enables it
• Generating static visuals requiring engineering translation
• Focusing on a single product; your scope encompasses the entire portfolio
• Executing predefined briefs; you extract insights from ambiguous inputs and begin design work with partial information
• Requesting approval; you possess autonomy to surface and resolve UX issues without waiting for instructions

Basic Requirements Senior Product Designer key responsibilities

• Minimum 5 years in product design or UX positions, with complete ownership spanning research through production launch
• Clear demonstration of user understanding and research rigor across audiences substantially different from yourself
• Established design quality in interaction and visual execution, with portfolio evidence of context-specific solutions rather than templated approaches, combined with articulated design perspectives
• Verified AI-integrated practice: rapid iteration capability, evaluative discernment, and willingness to critique initial AI suggestions instead of defaulting to automated output
• Capability to convert designs into functional code leveraging AI tooling and contemporary frameworks
• Ready to construct a design organization and standards from the ground up, not step into existing infrastructure

Working with us This is a full-time (40 hours per week), long-term position. The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record. The compensation level for this role is $100 USD/hour, which equates to $200,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year. The payment period is weekly.
