Senior Credit Underwriter – Fintech/NBFC

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Credit Underwriter with strong expertise in education loans, retail lending, unsecured credit ,secured credit within the Fintech and NBFC space. The candidate should have hands-on experience in underwriting, evaluating financials, managing risk, and working with diverse stakeholders to maintain portfolio quality.

Key Responsibilities:

• Underwrite loan applications across multiple products (Education Loans, Retail Loans, Business Loans, Consumer Loans).
• Assess loan requests by analyzing financial statements, ratios, repayment capacity, FOIR, and bureau reports (CIBIL/Experian/CRIF) .
• Handle ticket sizes ranging from [20 Lakh – ₹50 Lakhs] with defined approval authority limits.
• Evaluate applicant creditworthiness and recommend credit limits, terms, and repayment structures .
• Ensure adherence to internal credit policies, RBI guidelines, and regulatory norms (KYC, PMLA, etc.) .
• Collaborate with sales, risk, and operations teams to balance business growth and portfolio quality .
• Clearly communicate credit decisions and policies to clients and internal stakeholders.
• Utilize strong negotiation skills to resolve disputes and align with cross-functional teams.
• Continuously monitor portfolio performance and provide recommendations for policy/process improvements.

Requirements:

• 4+ years of experience in credit underwriting in Fintech/NBFCs .
• Exposure to underwriting in organizations like Varthana, Navient, Auxilo, Splash Financial, Eduvanz, and Banks (or similar).
• Proficiency in evaluating financial statements, ratio analysis, and risk assessment methodologies .
• Strong decision-making ability with experience in approval authority levels .
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills to handle clients and internal stakeholders.
• Knowledge of credit automation tools, underwriting platforms, and digital lending practices is an advantage.

Preferred:

• Hands-on experience in education loan underwriting and related products.
• Ability to work with large ticket sizes and structured lending products .
• Track record of maintaining high approval quality with minimal delinquencies.
