The
Program Manager – Innovation Engineering (Software Engineering)
is responsible for leading and coordinating complex, cross-functional software innovation programs from concept through delivery. This role sits at the intersection of
software engineering, product innovation, research, quality, and business
, ensuring that innovation initiatives are executed efficiently, aligned to strategic priorities, and compliant with Philips’ quality and regulatory standards.
You will drive execution excellence across multiple concurrent initiatives, enabling teams to innovate faster while managing dependencies, risks, and stakeholder expectations in a global matrix environment.
Your Role
Program Leadership & Delivery
- Lead end-to-end planning and execution of multi-stream software innovation programs.
- Translate innovation roadmaps into actionable program plans with clear milestones, deliverables, and success metrics.
- Ensure alignment between software engineering teams, product management, research, quality, regulatory, and business stakeholders.
- Track progress, manage dependencies, and proactively resolve execution challenges.
Innovation Enablement
- Support early-stage innovation and incubation activities, balancing agility with discipline.
- Enable rapid prototyping, experimentation, and iterative delivery while maintaining engineering rigor.
- Facilitate transitions from proof-of-concept to scalable, production-ready software solutions.
Stakeholder & Governance Management
- Act as the primary program interface for senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Drive program governance, reviews, and decision-making forums.
- Communicate program status, risks, and outcomes clearly and concisely.
Risk, Quality & Compliance
- Identify, assess, and mitigate technical, operational, and delivery risks.
- Ensure adherence to Philips’ software development lifecycle, cybersecurity, data privacy, and regulatory requirements (e.g., IEC 62304, ISO 13485, SaMD where applicable).
- Partner closely with Quality and Regulatory teams to enable compliant innovation.
Agile & Ways of Working
- Promote Agile, Lean, and DevOps best practices across programs.
- Support continuous improvement in delivery processes, tooling, and collaboration.
- Foster a culture of transparency, accountability, and learning.
You're The Right Fit If
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 12+ years of experience in program or project management, with a strong focus on software engineering.
- Proven experience managing complex, cross-functional programs in a matrixed, global organization.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycles, Agile methodologies, and modern engineering practices.
- Experience working in regulated environments (medical devices, healthcare, or safety-critical systems) is highly preferred.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills & Certifications
- Program Management certifications (PMP, PgMP, SAFe, or equivalent).
- Experience with cloud-native platforms, data platforms, AI/ML, or digital health solutions.
- Familiarity with innovation frameworks, design thinking, or lean startup methodologies.
- Strong systems-thinking mindset with the ability to connect strategy to execution.
